THE DIKWANKWETLA WITHDRAWAL FROM THE NATIONAL PEACE ACCORD

The ANC regrets but is not surprised by the withdrawal of Qwaqwa's Dikwankwetla Party from the National Peace Accord. The withdrawal is part of the preparations the party is making for a violent assault on the democratic movement in the homeland and surrounding towns. The ANC is in possession of information that suggests that Dikwankwetla has been infiltrating IFP elements in the area with a view to fomenting violence. (ANC statement on this matter is attached).

Dinkwankwetla Party problems came to the fore when a number of its members left the party including two paramount chiefs. Reports of intimidation of the followers of the Chiefs who withdrew from the Party have been reaching the ANC regularly in the past two months.

The ANC appeals to Dikwankwetla and its leaders to refrain from importing violence to the Orange Free State and allow free political activity in the area.
