Condolences to Sisulu family from Parliament

Cape Town 8 May 2003 Sapa

Parliament added its condolences to the Sisulu family on Thursday following the death of the late African National Congress stalwart and freedom fighter Walter Sisulu on Monday.

Parliamentary secretary Sindiso Mfenyana, on behalf of the staff in the Parliamentary Service, said: "I convey our deep condolences to Ma Sisulu and her family at the sad loss of her husband, father and friend to all South Africans - Tata Walter Sisulu".

His unique ability to dedicate himself both to the liberation struggle as well as care for his family would remain a shining example to future generations that "charity begins at home.

"Though physically removed from us, his thoughts, words and deeds will continue to influence the lives of millions in South Africa and beyond," Mfenyana said.

Sisulu will be given an official funeral in Johannesburg on Saturday May 17.
