The Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa) expressed its deep sorrow on Wednesday at the death of African National Congress stalwart and freedom fighter Walter Sisulu.
A statement issued by Contralesa president Patekile Holomisa said Sisulu's humanity, selflessness, and dedication to the cause of freedom inspired many of the current old guard of the liberation movement.
"As South Africans, we been fortunate to have a leader like him, a treasure trove of knowledge and wisdom to be tapped by generations present and to come.
"He was a role model of a husband, a father and proponent of non-racialism and reconciliation," the statement said.
Sisulu, a veteran anti-apartheid activist in the struggle for majority rule, died at the age of 90 in the arms of his wife, Albertina at their Johannesburg home on Monday.
